Caught In The Grand Foyer

The Fall That Changed Everything Forever

The impact, when it came, knocked the breath entirely out of Ethan’s chest, but he held on, arms wrapping tightly around Claire as they both crashed to the marble floor together, his body absorbing the worst of the fall. For a moment, neither of them moved, the entire foyer frozen in stunned, disbelieving silence. Then Claire gasped, a sharp, ragged sound as air finally rushed back into her lungs, her hands still pressed protectively against her stomach as though she could somehow shield her unborn child from everything that had just happened. Ethan pulled her closer instinctively, checking her over with frantic, careful hands, his own heart pounding so hard he could feel it in his throat. “I’ve got you,” he said, his voice rough with adrenaline and something deeper, something that had clearly been building for far longer than this single terrifying moment. “I’ve got you, you’re safe.” Around them, the chaos in the foyer continued to unfold — guests shouting for someone to call an ambulance, staff rushing forward with towels and water, a general sense of panic rippling outward through the grand space. But for Ethan, none of that mattered yet. His entire world had narrowed down to Claire, to the terrified, grateful look in her eyes as she stared up at him, still struggling to catch her breath after everything that had just happened. “Ethan,” she managed to whisper, her voice trembling, tears mixing with the shock still written plainly across her face. “I can’t believe you—” “Don’t talk,” he said gently, cutting her off, his hand moving to gently cradle the back of her head. “Just breathe. You’re okay. The baby’s okay. I’ve got you now.” Above them, Eleanor remained frozen at the broken balcony railing, staring down at the scene with an expression that had shifted from shock into something far more calculating, already trying to determine exactly how much trouble she was truly in.
